News No. 24/2018 : Friday,
February 16, 2018,
THE army on Thursday
night snatched away two rape victims from Rangamati Sadar Hospital where they
were undergoing medical treatment, and assaulted Chakma queen Yan Yan, who have
been waging a legal battle to take the victims into her safe custody.
According to
eyewitnesses’ accounts, a group of army men led by Major Tanvir, who is blamed
for the death of PCP leader Romel Chakma in army custody in April last year,
entered the hospital room, beat the girls attending to the victims, forced them
to another room, switched the lights off and then took the rape victims away.
The Chakma queen was at
the hospital to defend the victims, but the soldiers also assaulted her
physically.
It’s not known where the
victims, two sisters aged 14 and 19, have been taken.
They had been admitted
to the hospital after they were raped by army on 22 January at their home in
Orachari village under Belaichari Upazila in Rangamati district.
The army has been trying to cover up the incident.
