Ex UPDF member kidnapped in Dighinala

A FORMER member of the United Peoples’ Democratic Front (UPDF) has been reportedly abducted by JSS-M. N. Larma faction in Dighinala.

The victim has been identified as Devashish Chakma from Gongaram Chodogichara village under Sajek Union of Rangamati district.

According to his family sources, Mr Chakma was going to visit his sister at Headman Para in Dighinala, but as soon as he reached Dighinala station, the JSS M. N. Larma faction, popularly known as Reformists, kidnapped him.

He has not been traced ever since.

Army conducts house searches in Gorgojjyachari

THE army has conducted house-to-house searches in Gorgojjyachari village under Khagrachari Sadar Upazila, according to sources.

Two villagers were also detained but were released after a brief interrogation, sources added.

A group of army personnel led by Lt. Col. Mostaq Ahmed from Mohalchari zone conducted the searches early in the morning today.

The houses searched belong to Sukhomoy Chakma (65), Roza Dewan (60), Newton Chakma (40), Modaram Chakma (47) (he is a former member of the Bangladesh Army), Sonaram Chakma (45), Bosonto Chakma (45), Mojendra Chakma (46) and Chega Chakma (45).

The soldiers detained Jibon Chakma (39) and Prodotta Chakma during the search and asked them about yesterday’s ‘clash’ between two Jumma groups at Kamalchari.

They were released later.

Two minor boys beaten by army in Matiranga

TWO teenage boys have been tortured in Matiranga for putting up posters on the 24th anniversary of Naniachar massacre.

A group of army personnel from Matiranga zone went to Purbo Khedachara Kumar Karbari Para village under Belchari Union No. 5 at 8:30 a.m. today and beat up Ruti Tripura (12) son of Taindu Tripura and Dilu Tripura (18) son of late Khonno Mohan Tripura at Bachchu’s teashop.

About 36 Jummas were killed in Naniachar massacre on 17 November 1993.

SSC examinee tortured by army in Naniachar

AN SSC examinee has been tortured after the army raided their house in Naniachar in Rangamati district. (SSC stands for Secondary School Certificate)

According to eyewitnesses’ accounts, a group of army personnel led by a captain (he took his name badge off his uniform) from Naniachar zone raided Borpulpara village under Sabekyong Union at 8:30 p.m.

THE army-backed Nobyo Mukhosh Bahini terrorists kidnapped two UPDF activists and one of their supporters in Khagrachari on Saturday, 18 November.

The abducted UPDF members have been identified as Upo Tripura, 31, son of Hiroda Tripura of village Nilodhan Para under Logang Union and Gorrikko Chakma son of Bizu Ram Chakma of village Okkoy Para under Panchari Sadar Union.
