Two UPDF activists arrested in Ramgarh

TWO activists of the United Peoples’ Democratic Front (UPDF) have been arrested in Ramgarh, Khagrachari.

According to sources, the UPDF activists were sleeping at Sathoai Pru Marma’s house in Bano Bihar area of Lachari Para village when they were arrested.

One wounded in settler attack in Laxmichari

A JUMMA villager has been seriously wounded as he resisted an attempt by Bengali settlers to grab his land in Laxmichari today.

According to sources, a group of Bengali settlers led by Mohammad Hakim, Zakir and Mossaraf made an attempt to grab land belonging to Thoaiching Marma, 34, son of Khizuri Marma, in Monghla-para village at 11 a. m. today.

‘When the settlers began clearing jungle in his land, Thoaiching protested. Then the settlers struck him in the head with an axe, wounding him seriously’, Aungyo Pru Marma, Vice Chairman of Laxmichari Upazila, told chtnews.com.

Thoaiching was rushed to Chittagong Medical College Hospital in critical condition, he added.

The Jumma villagers caught some of the attackers and handed them over to the police, but the police, to their utter surprise, refused to arrest them.

‘It is surprising that the police should let the attackers go scot-free.’ one of the villagers, who participated in the resistance, said.


A tense situation is now prevailing in Laxmichari following the incident.

Three villagers’ houses searched in Baghaichari

THE army on Sunday searched three houses of Jumma villagers in Nine Kilo and Eleven Kilo under Bongoltoli Union in Baghaichari Upazila of Rangamati district.

Soldiers from Dui-tila camp led by Warrant Officer Arif carried out the search after the villagers had refused to take blankets distributed by army at Amtola earlier in the day.

JSS-Reformists beat four villagers in Betchari

Four villagers were wounded after they were beaten by members of the JSS M. N. Larma faction, popularly known as Reformist, in Betchari Christian Para under Khagrachari Sadar Upzila on Thursday.

The victims have been identified as former UP member Satyo Broto Chakma, Gulo Chakma, Rubel Chakma and Rikumoni Chakma.

UPDF organiser Mithun Chakma shot dead in Khagrachari

Mithun Chakma, an organizer of the United Peoples’ Democratic Front (UPDF), has been shot dead in Khagrachari.

Members of the army-backed Nabyo Mukhosh Bahini vigilante group picked him up from in front of his home at Aparna Chowdhuri Para in Khagrachari town at 12:30 p. m. today and took him to Sluice Gate area and then shot him point blank in the head and abdomen, killing him instantly.
