Vigilantes try to kidnap UPDF activist in Guimara

AN ATTEMPT of the army-backed vigilantes to kidnap an activist of the United Peoples’ Democratic Front (UPDF) failed as the villagers resisted them in Guimara Upazila under Khagrachari district.

The incident took place on Tuesday, March 13. According to sources, a group of eight vigilantes led by Aongyo Marma mounting four motorbikes went to Kukichara Marma Para, about 4 kilometers east of Guimara Upazila headquarters and tried to kidnap Zhimit Chakma, 40, from a tea shop there.

Tripura teenage girl raped in Matiranga

A 14-YEAR-OLD Tripura teenage girl was reportedly raped in Gomati area in Matigranga on Thursday, 8 March.

The girl came under attack at 7:00 in the morning when she went to a nearby stream to fetch water.

However, the identity of her attacker could not be immediately known.

The victim was at first admitted to Matiranga hospital, but later transferred to Khagrachari Sadar district hospital for better treatment.

Army raid in Khagrachari: one beaten, houses searched

ONE Jumma was beaten and two houses searched during an army raid in Khobongpujya in Khagrachari town on Wednesday night.

The raid came after the people resisted an army and police attempt to capture UPDF office at Swanirbhor and implant the army-backed vigilantes earlier in the day.

A group of 70-80 army personnel and police conducted the raid at 1:30 a. m. (Thursday, 8 March).

They searched the houses of Ziko Tripura, General Secretary of the Democratic Youth Forum, and Rupok Chakma, a resident of Khobongpujya, according to sources.

Two Jumma houses torched by army in Sajek

THE army on Saturday burned down two houses belonging to two poor Jumma villagers in Midingachari under Ward No. 7 in Sajek Union of Baghaichari Upazila in Rangamati district.

Amulyo Roton Chakma son of late Laxmidhon Chakma and Sonadhon Chakma son of Monu Ranjon Chakma and their family members were away in the jungle to collect Phuljharoo (a kind of shrub with which floors are swept) when the soldiers from Baghaihat zone torched their houses.

AN ARMED terrorist attack on members of the United Peoples’ Democratic Front (UPDF) by army-backed Nobyo Mukhosh Bahini vigilante group has left one UPDF activist dead and three others wounded in Dighinala under Khagrachari district.

Seven NMB vigilantes led by Lun Kumar Tripura attacked UPDF activists at Chattrabus area in Jamtoli, about three kilometers south-west of Dighinala Upazila headquarters, at 9:15 a. m. today.
