News No. 18/2018: Monday,
January 29, 2018,
THE Nobyo Mukhosh
Bahini chief Tapan Jyoti Chakma alias Borma yesterday threatened to kill Ms
Quality Chakma, Woman Vice Chairman of Naniachar Upazila Parishad, for
addressing a women rally in Naniachar, Rangamati.
Ms Chakma told chtnews.com that
the army-backed NMB vigilante group leader had called her using a mobile phone
and threatened to kill her.
‘Borma also hurled
abuses at me, but I don’t really know why he was angry with me,’ she said.
The rally was
organized by women activists in Naniachar to protest at the rape of a teenaged
Marma girl and sexual harassment of her young sister by two Bangladesh army
personnel at a remote village in Belaichari Upazila on 21 January.
‘I am now feeling
insecure,’ she said.
Hill Women’s
Federation president Nirupa Chakma condemned the threat to kill Quality Chakma
as most obnoxious and demanded that the government immediately arrest Borma,
who is responsible for the recent killings in the CHT including of UPDF leader
Mithun Chakma.
