Jumma children have been rescued from Fakirapul in Dhaka
while they were on their way to a Madrassa in Pirozpur, reports Prothom Alo and
bartalive24.com.
A collaborator of the scheme, Binoy Tripura, was also held.
Tripura Students’ Forum and Tripura Kalyan Sangsad leaders,
who led the rescue operation, said the Jumma children from Tripura community
were lured into believing that they would be given a free education in a
boarding school, but the actual aim was to convert them to Islam.
The children have been sent back to their homes, they said,
adding: ‘no decision was yet taken about the fate of Binoy Tripura.’
The superintendent of police in Bandarban, Quamrul Ahsan and
Officer-in-charge Imtiaz Ahmed said they had not been informed about the
sending back of the children, but added that they would inquire about the
matter.
